School system officials and environmental educators gave briefings on programs aimed at turning daunting challenges of the 21st century into jobs and opportunities. By bus, superintendents traveled to the Lower 9th Ward of the city, the area hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina which is still struggling to recover.
